Katsina State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit following a foiled attack on Unguwar Bido and Unguwar Kanawa villages in Dandume local government area.
The suspect was apprehended during a late-night operation on April 28, 2026, after police operatives engaged a group of heavily armed bandits who had invaded the communities.
In a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Aliyu Sadiq, the divisional police officer (DPO) in Dandume acted based on a distress call received at about 10:00 p.m. and mobilised a response team that confronted the assailants in a gun duel, repelling the attack.
He added that the attackers fled the scene with suspected casualties, abandoning their mission, while one of them was captured during the operation.
Despite the success recorded, two residents sustained gunshot injuries during the attack and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The commissioner of police, Ali Umar Fage, commended the operatives for their swift response and bravery. He further ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and directed a manhunt to track down other fleeing suspects.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing efforts to combat banditry in the state.
