The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the opening of its online portal for the recruitment of 50,000 Police Constables into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
This followed a directive by President Bola Tinubu to strengthen community policing and boost national security.
A statement on Thursday by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs at the Commission, Torty Njoku Kalu, announced that the portal will be open from Monday, 15 December 2025, and will close on Sunday, 25 January 2026, during which eligible Nigerians are expected to submit their applications online.
It assured that the exercise would be conducted in the “most transparent, merit-based and credible manner,” noting that “application is free as there will be no payment required at any stage of the process.”
Applicants were also warned to be wary of fraudsters.
The PSC explained that the recruitment covers both General Duty and Specialist cadres. “For General Duty applicants, candidates must possess at least five credits in GCE O’Level, SSCE, NECO or their equivalents, including English and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings.
“Specialist applicants, however, are required to have a minimum of four credits, including English and Mathematics, alongside at least three years of relevant work experience and the appropriate Trade Test qualifications.”
It further outlined the eligibility criteria, which include Nigerian citizenship by birth and age limits set at 18 to 25 years for General Duty and 18 to 28 years for Specialists.
The statement also said applicants must be “medically, physically and psychologically fit,” while those applying for General Duty must “not be less than 1.67m (male) and 1.64m (female) in height.”
The Commission noted that detailed guidelines and additional requirements will be published on the official recruitment portal and on the social media platforms of both the PSC and the Nigeria Police Force from the date the portal becomes active.
PSC encouraged qualified Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity, stating that the recruitment drive was part of an effort to expand the police’s manpower base and better secure communities across the country.
