Anti-crime squad of the Anambra State Police Command has destroyed several insurgents’ camps in Ogbunka community in Orumba-south LGA of the state.

The police team during the operation recovered six improvised explosive devices (IEDs) already primed for attacks by hoodlums and also recovered two walkie-talkies in some of the camps.

The state police public relations officer (PPRO) SP Tochukwu Ikenga who disclosed the command’s success story yesterday said that the team carried out the operation in forests in Ogbunka community noting that two members of the insurgents escaped the camps on sighting the police team.

He stated that substantial food items and groceries were also recovered from the insurgents’ camps during the operation carried out on Friday.

SP Ikenga stated that following the attacks carried out by criminal gangs on two police stations: Awgbu police station in Orumba-North LGA and Neni police station in Anaocha LGA within the past two weeks, the commissioner of police in the state, CP Aderemi Adeoye declared a manhunt after the perpetrators.

He stated that CP Adeoye deployed joint security forces, JTF and ordered them to fish out and arrest the hoodlums and make them face the consequences of their actions in the law court and also identify any insurgents’ hideout anywhere in the state and destroy them.

Tochukwu stated that the JTF had destroyed an insurgents’ camp in the same Ogbunka community and another in Achalla community in Awka-North LGA of the state.
