The Kwara State Police Command has commenced investigation into the gruesome murder of a farmer, Mr Azeez Garba.
Garba was reportedly killed by unknown assailants in his cocoa farm
along the Owa-Onire axis, a boundary between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin in Isin local government area of the state.
A daughter of the deceased, Rofiat had raised an alarm through the social murder over the gruesome murder of his father on his farmland.
Rofiat said, ” I am the second daughter of Abdulazeez Abubakar Abiodun, popularly known as Kebe. I am sharing this heartbreaking story in the hope that it reaches the right people and helps us get justice for my beloved father.
“On the morning of July 11, 2026, my father left the home in Isalu, Isin local government area of Kwara State, at about 7:00 a.m. to go to his cocoa farm in Owa-Onire, also in Isin local government area. Farming was his means of livelihood, and it was part of his daily routine. Since the farm is just like 2hours far from our home, we expected him to return later that day.
“As the day went on and he did not come home, we became worried. We tried to reach him and waited, hoping he would return safely, but there was no sign of him. Our concern grew, and we immediately informed the local hunters in our community and asked for their help in searching for him.
“When the hunters got to his farm, they found only his motorcycle parked there. Seeing the motorcycle without my father filled us with fear. We initially believed he might have been kidnapped and waited anxiously, expecting that someone would contact us to demand a ransom. However, no call ever came.
“The hunters continued searching deeper into the surrounding bush. After searching for some time, far away from where his motorcycle had been parked, they made a horrifying discovery. They found my father’s lifeless body in the bush. His two hands had been tied, and he had been brutally killed.”
Confirming the incident in a statement on Tuesday, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire- Adeyemi said the commissioner of Police in the state, Ojo Adekimi has ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation into the gruesome murder Garba
She confirmed that the farmer’s lifeless body was discovered on his farmland along the Owa-Onire axis, a boundary between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin in Isin local government area of the state.
She said the police boss described the killing of Garba as cruel, senseless, and unacceptable and condemned the act and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to immediately deploy all available investigative and intelligence assets towards identifying, tracking, and apprehending those responsible.
“Preliminary findings revealed that the deceased had gone to his farm in the morning but failed to return home, prompting family members and local vigilantes to launch a search. His motorcycle was later found parked at the farm, while his lifeless body was subsequently discovered a short distance away with deep machete wounds.
“While no arrest has been made as of the time of this release, the Command wishes to assure the bereaved family, the people of Isin local government area, and the general public that every available lead is being diligently pursued. Investigators are working assiduously to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and ensure that all those connected with this heinous crime are identified and brought to justice,” Ejire- Adeyemi said.
