The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a manhunt after the killers of the president-general (PG) of Ogidi community of Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, Chief Ikwuka Okoye.

According to sources, Chief Okoye was waylaid somewhere at Ebenezer Anglican Church, Uru village, Ogidi, between 6pm-7pm where he had gone to conclude arrangements on the funeral ceremony of his mother slated for the church’s field on Friday.

Sir Okoye was said to have been waylaid and killed alongside a woman, one Mrs Ebele Onuigbo, who was said to be in his car with him when the gunmen attacked them as they were about to return to their neighbouring Abor village in the Ogidi town.

The attack, according to sources, was allegedly carried out by members of Aiye (NBM) cultists who were said to be avenging the arrest and killing of their leader, Emma Emasco, earlier on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

Emasco, according to sources, was a notorious cultist, who had allegedly killed over 46 persons in the community, and had been on the wanted list of the Ogidi community vigilant group.

He was eventually said to have been arrested by the town’s vigilante team on February 3 and was shot on the leg by the vigilance operatives.

Emma was said to have confessed to having killed 17 persons in the community during interrogation by the vigilance operatives.

He had told the vigilance operatives that he was the only surviving member of his cult team, except one of his gang members he simply gave his name as Guttuso, whom he said has been incapacitated and has been staying indoors since a long time now because he is suffering kidney infection challenges.

Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Saturday, said that a team of the command’s anti-crime operatives had already taken over the scene where Okoye and the woman were gruesomely killed.

SP Ikenga also said that the police operatives were working with some “eyewitnesses” of the gruesome killing to ensure that the killers were arrested to face the consequences of their actions according to the laws of the country.

“The Anambra State Police Command regrets the murder of the President General of the Ogidi community and one other person.

“The incident, which occurred in the evening of 6th February 2026 at the School Field, Ogidi, is allegedly linked to the recent capture and killing of a known notorious cultist within the community.

“Following the report, police operatives swiftly took over the scene of the incident and commenced investigations. The Command is currently working with eyewitness accounts and other available intelligence to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

“The Anambra State Police Command assures members of the public that all efforts are being intensified to bring those responsible to justice. Residents are urged to remain calm and cooperate with the police as investigations continue,” the PPRO stated.
