The police public relations officer of Taraba State Police Command, Abdullahi Usman, has died after a protracted illness.
Usman, who has been the spokesman of the police command for the past three years, died in the early hours of yesterday at his residence in Jalingo, Taraba State capital.
The second-in-command to the PPRO Gambo Kwache, who was once the acting spokesperson of the command while Usman was away for medications, confirmed the death of the PPRO to LEADERSHIP when contacted.
“I was sleeping. I woke up and saw 14 missed calls on my phone and a message stating that Oga was dead. I will call you; let me get there first,” Kwache said.
Also, a close friend of Usman, Mr Ahmed Manga, confirmed the PPRO’s death.
Manga, who spoke to our correspondent through the phone line of the PPRO, said Usman died at about 5am on Sunday.
“He was sick, although not much, until last night when he started struggling with the sickness; we wanted to take him to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Jalingo.
“Before we could get there, he died on the way. He was later confirmed dead when we arrived at the FMC.”
Manga said Usman will be buried at Taraba State Police Cemetery Jalingo by 2pm according to Islamic rights.
