The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the death of a 24-year-old woman, Fatima Salihu Mohammed, whose decomposing body was discovered in a maize farm located within the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi staff quarters.

The case was first reported on September 25, 2025, when Fatima’s father, 62-year-old Salihu Mohammed Chimo, lodged a complaint at the ‘E’ Division Police Headquarters that his daughter had left home on September 24 to buy groceries at Birshin Fulani but never returned.

A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, on Tuesday, explained that detectives with surveillance expertise and technological tools were immediately deployed to trace the deceased’s whereabouts.

“On September 29, the Command received a distress call from the Village Head of Birshin Fulani that he had been informed by one Bashar Adamu, who while working on his father’s maize farm within the Federal Polytechnic staff quarters, perceived a foul odour. Upon checking, he discovered the decomposed body of a young lady.

“Unfortunately, on 29th September 2025 at about 1230hrs information receipt through a distress call from village head of Birshin Fulani indicated that on the same date at about 1200hrs he received information from one Bashar Adamu ‘m’ of Birshin Fulani while working on his father’s maize farm situated within Federal Polytechnic staff quarters, he perceived an unpleasant odour within the farm, while searching to know the cause of odour, he discovered a decomposing female body,” the police said.

Wakil further explained that police detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer of ‘E’ Division, rushed to the scene, cordoned off the area, and confirmed the body as that of the missing Fatima Mohammed. “Her personal belongings, including the groceries she had purchased, were found beside her.”

He added that her remains were evacuated to the Federal Polytechnic Clinic, where a medical practitioner certified her dead.

The police spokesperson added that the body was later released to her family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

The State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has set up a special homicide team to conduct a comprehensive investigation.

He assured that the Command will pursue all leads, gather necessary evidence and ensure justice.
