Political Tension Rises In Benue As PDP, APC Disagree Over Remi Tinubu’s Visit

Political tensions have intensified in Benue State following a disagreement between the state chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the planned visit of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the commissioning of infrastructure projects by the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The APC in Benue has described the planned visit as a positive development, saying it will provide an opportunity to showcase ongoing projects executed by the state government. Party leaders insist that the First Lady’s engagement will help draw national attention to what they described as improvements in roads and other public infrastructure across the state.

However, the PDP in the state has taken a different position, accusing the ruling party of using the visit as a political tool. The opposition party argues that government projects should be implemented and delivered to the people without being turned into what it described as a political showcase.

According to the PDP, the timing and presentation of the visit raise concerns about politicisation, especially in a state where political competition remains strong ahead of future elections.

The APC has dismissed the criticism, maintaining that there is nothing wrong in highlighting development achievements, especially when high-profile visitors are involved. The party insists that the projects being showcased reflect tangible progress under the current administration.
