Zaria chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) has warned the director general of Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Dr Auwal Mustapha Imam, threatening to resume a previously suspended strike if their demands are not met.

In a resolution jointly signed by the association’s chairman, Adamu Ibrahim, and Secretary, Bitrus Zaman, the union accused the DG of victimisation and administrative high-handedness.

The resolution, seen by LEADERSHIP, called for the immediate reversal of the recent demotion of Mr Adamu Ibrahim, who served as NILEST’s deputy director of finance and accounts.

The union described the move as a targeted act of victimisation, citing it as part of a broader pattern of unfair treatment and disregard for staff welfare.

SSANIP further demanded the reversal of recent staff transfers, stressing that the changes were made without proper consultation and undermined industrial peace.

The association also called for the urgent payment of outstanding promotion arrears and salaries owed since January 2022 to staff at the institute’s extension centres.

“The DG must expedite action on these accrued claims,” the union stated. “Repatriation allowances are a staff entitlement and should not be delayed.”

They also accused the DG of consistently taking decisions on staff matters without consulting stakeholders or engaging with the union.

In addition, the union emphasised that non-accident bonuses owed to drivers must be paid immediately, noting that such entitlements are part of their contractual rights.
