Portuguese champions FC Porto are intensifying efforts to drive down the €8 million purchase clause agreed with OGC Nice for out-of-favour Nigerian forward Terem Moffi, according to fresh reports from Lisbon-based sports daily A Bola.
The Dragões, who recently clinched the Primeira Liga title, now consider the pre-negotiated fee excessive given the striker’s limited impact since arriving on loan. Club officials are pushing to reopen talks with the Ligue 1 side, hoping to secure a significantly reduced transfer fee when the season concludes.
Moffi’s turbulent campaign began long before his Portuguese adventure. The 25-year-old Super Eagles international fell out dramatically with both Nice supporters and club leadership following an alleged physical altercation involving fans – an incident that effectively ended his time on the French Riviera.
Since joining Porto largely as a backup option, Moffi has made 15 appearances across all competitions, the vast majority coming from the substitutes’ bench.
His return stands at two goals and one assist – modest numbers that Porto’s hierarchy feel do not justify the originally agreed sum.
Nice, for their part, have reportedly accepted reality: the powerful Nigerian forward will never wear their shirt again.
Club executives are said to be resigned to letting him leave permanently, though they remain reluctant to accept a steep discount unless Porto present a compelling case.
With the season winding down, both clubs are expected to enter formal negotiations shortly. Moffi’s representatives are also understood to be monitoring developments closely, as the player seeks stability after a year marked by controversy and limited playing time. A resolution is anticipated before the summer transfer window fully opens.
