Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have reunited with their grandfather, King Charles, for the first time in four years, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.
King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their two children, seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet, at Highgrove House on Friday. The private family meeting took place at the King’s country residence in Gloucestershire, England. Officials noted that photographs of the private gathering will not be released to the public.
The low-profile reunion marks the first time the King has seen his grandchildren since Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.
The family trip had previously been cast into doubt due to ongoing disagreements over security arrangements. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex lost their taxpayer-funded security privileges after stepping back from official royal duties in 2020. Earlier reports indicated the travel plans had been temporarily cancelled after their request for official security was denied.
While Prince Harry initially travelled to the United Kingdom alone earlier in the week to attend charitable events and launch the countdown for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, his wife and children arrived later to join him.
Insiders report that the family will not make any public appearances during their stay in the United Kingdom, but they plan to make a private visit to the burial site of Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, at the Althorp Estate.
