A former executive director of Housing Finance and Accounts, Federal Housing Authority and governorship aspirant under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Mathias Terwase Byuan, has asked Governor Hyacinth Alia to secure the life and property of the people or resign.
Byuan, who condemned the recent killing of some residents by suspected herdsmen in Mbalom, Gwer East local government area, promised to secure Benue from criminals when elected into office.
Through the director of Media of the DMB Governorship Campaign Organisation, Akange Nyagba, the aspirant said his priority, if elected governor in 2027, would be to protect the people from internal and external aggression.
He said that attacks by herdsmen would be dealt with decisively.
In a press statement he issued yesterday, Nyagba said, “Dr Mathias Terwase Byuan has condemned the recent killing of innocent citizens by armed herdsmen in Mbalom, Gwer East local government of Benue State.
Reacting to the Easter Sunday attack, which claimed dozens of innocent civilians, the aspirant lamented that the unprovoked and incessant attacks on Benue communities were unchallenged, claiming that the present leadership had failed to protect the people and does not deserve their mandate again.
Dr Byuan, who reminded the Alia-led administration that the primary purpose of government was to secure life and property, challenged the government to fulfil its responsibilities or quit.
He said, “The topmost governorship aspirant consoled the families that were affected in the pogrom, assuring them that it is for the sake of the security situation in Benue that he resigned his appointment with the Federal Housing Authority to come to their rescue.”
