The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) Northwest Stakeholders Forum has threatened legal action against former Kano State Governor and vice-presidential candidate of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, over the alleged purchase of nomination forms for 69 elective positions on the party’s platform.

The forum alleged that the nomination forms were obtained by an individual who is not a member of the PRP, describing the development as an attempt to undermine internal democracy and hijack the party’s structure.

The Chairman of the PRP Northwest Stakeholders Forum, Abdulkadir Musa, made the allegation during a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Kano on Sunday.

Musa alleged that the development was linked to Kwankwaso, claiming that it was intended to prevent genuine party members from contesting various elective positions.

He said, “It has been confirmed that nomination forms for all the 69 elective positions under the platform of the PRP have been purchased by one individual who is not even a member of our party.”

According to him, the affected positions include governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly seats.

He described the alleged action as political interference capable of creating confusion and disputes within the party ahead of the elections.

Musa said several credible PRP members had indicated interest in contesting under the party’s platform and had been selected through consensus, warning that their rights must be protected.

“We appeal to Senator Kwankwaso to allow political parties to operate independently and democratically. The PRP should be spared from what we consider a deliberate attempt to interfere with its internal affairs,” he said.

The PRP chieftain warned that the party would seek legal redress if the alleged interference continued.

“Should this continue, legal action will be our only option in defending the integrity and independence of our party,” he added.

However, the Kwankwasiyya movement dismissed the allegation, describing it as baseless and politically motivated.

The spokesperson of the movement, Habibu Mohammed, said the group would ordinarily not respond to what he described as claims from “faceless people,” alleging that the accusation was part of a plot to distract the public from the growing influence of the movement.

According to him, the allegation was linked to concerns over the rising political profile of the NDC in Kano and the North following the emergence of Kwankwaso as the party’s vice-presidential candidate.

“We believe this is just the work of the state government because they are scared of the rising profile of the NDC in Kano and even in the northern part of the country,” he said.

Mohammed questioned the credibility of the PRP stakeholders’ forum chairman, arguing that the allegation lacked substance.

“For somebody to tell you that a political party sold all its nomination forms to somebody who is not even a member of that party, whether Kwankwaso or whoever, it tells you what kind of political party it is,” he said.

He challenged the leadership of the PRP to clarify the matter, saying genuine party leaders should come out to address the allegation.

The Kwankwasiyya spokesperson further accused the APC-led Kano State Government of attempting to use the controversy to distract attention from governance issues.

He maintained that Kwankwaso remained focused on expanding the movement and strengthening its political structure across the Northwest.

“This is nothing more than an unnecessary distraction,” he added.
