Katsina State governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has convened an emergency security council meeting at the Government House in Katsina, following a fresh wave of violence that has heightened tension across the state.
The high-powered meeting brought together heads of security agencies, local government chairmen from affected areas, and top representatives of the Nigerian Army, Defence Headquarters, and the Department of State Services (DSS), as authorities deliberated on urgent measures to curb the rising insecurity.
Also in attendance were officials of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Federal Fire Service, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, alongside traditional rulers, religious leaders, and senior government officials.
The urgent security gathering followed a deadly attack on Sayaya village in Matazu local government area of the State, where suspected bandits killed three people, including a police officer, in a brazen assault that has sent shockwaves through the community.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the attackers invaded the village, attacked the local police station leading to the death of an officer, vandalised the Primary Health Care (PHC) Centre, and looted several shops before fleeing the village.
In a swift response, Governor Radda visited the affected area for an on-the-spot assessment, inspecting the damaged facilities and engaging with distraught residents.
He also condoled with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and officers of the State Command, as well as families who lost loved ones in the attack.
The emergency meeting held behind closed-door as at the time of filing this report andit is expected to produce decisive strategies to halt the resurgence of attacks and restore security confidence among residents.
