Radda Reaffirms Commitment To Strengthening Security

Katsina State governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the state as it joined the rest of the country to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at People’s Square, Katsina.

At the solemn ceremony, Governor Radda described January 15 as more than a date on the calendar, noting that it represents Nigeria’s enduring gratitude to its brave sons and daughters in uniform who demonstrated courage, sacrifice, and unwavering patriotism in the defence of the nation.

He paid tribute to fallen military personnel who laid down their lives to ensure Nigeria’s peace, unity, and dignity, while also saluting living veterans and active-duty personnel whose daily sacrifices continue to protect the country from internal and external threats.

Governor Radda commended the resilience and professionalism of security forces operating in Katsina State, despite the persistent challenges of banditry, insurgency, and other forms of insecurity.

He noted that the resolve of the nation and its security institutions has been tested, yet military personnel have continued to display exceptional heroism through patrols of rural communities, rescue operations, and the protection of lives and property.

Reaffirming his administration’s position, the governor said the Katsina State Government has strengthened collaboration with security agencies through enhanced intelligence sharing, provision of logistical support, and improved welfare interventions for service personnel and their families.

He added that the government would sustain investment in community-based security initiatives and ensure that veterans receive due recognition and support.

According to him, the service of veterans did not end with their retirement from active duty, as their sacrifices remain the foundation of the peace enjoyed today.

He also assured serving troops that their present sacrifices are vital to securing Nigeria’s future.

Governor Radda expressed sympathy to the families of fallen heroes, describing their loss as a collective national sorrow and their resilience as a source of inspiration to the nation.

He stressed that remembrance must go beyond ceremonial observances, urging Nigerians to take concrete actions toward building a country worthy of the sacrifices made by its heroes, one where peace is not only declared but lived, and where justice, opportunity, and dignity are guaranteed for all.

The ceremony included the laying of wreaths in honour of fallen heroes, which the governor said symbolised both mourning and a renewed commitment to defend the values for which the nation’s heroes paid the ultimate price.

He then offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the departed, asking Almighty Allah to grant strength to those currently serving and fortitude to the families of the fallen, while also praying for Katsina State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The event was attended by senior government officials, state security chiefs, traditional rulers, veterans, and residents of the state.
