RCCG Denies Adeboye Took Political Position, Called Off Protest

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dismissed claims linking its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, to partisan politics and the alleged cancellation of a planned protest, insisting that the cleric has maintained a non-partisan stance while consistently speaking on national issues.

In a statement issued on Tuesday through the RCCG Official Public Relations X handle, the church said Pastor Adeboye has repeatedly encouraged members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in elections by voting for candidates of their choice.

The church stressed that the cleric has never aligned RCCG with any political party, noting that members of the church belong to different political affiliations and are free to exercise their civic responsibilities without interference.

RCCG also described as false reports suggesting that Pastor Adeboye called off a planned protest.

According to the church, the cleric merely communicated a directive from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) concerning adjustments to activities scheduled for a three-day prayer programme.

It explained that the revised arrangement involved holding the grand finale at a central venue, with participants expected to conduct a rally around the location.

“The directive originated from the PFN and was communicated to all churches under its umbrella across Nigeria,” the statement said.

The church further rejected allegations that Pastor Adeboye has remained silent on national issues, noting that he has repeatedly addressed concerns relating to insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, elections, governance and the need for righteous leadership.

According to RCCG, the General Overseer often speaks on national matters through moral guidance, prayers and counsel rather than partisan political engagement or confrontation.

The church stressed that neither Pastor Adeboye nor RCCG should be judged based on what it described as false narratives and inaccurate representations.

It urged the public to rely on the church’s official communication channels and authorised representatives for information concerning Pastor Adeboye and RCCG.

The statement added that any position not communicated, verified or endorsed through the church’s official platforms should not be regarded as the church’s stance.

RCCG also called on bloggers, commentators, media organisations and content publishers to uphold responsible journalism by verifying information before publication.

According to the church, accuracy and fact-checking remain essential in reporting issues concerning Pastor Adeboye and RCCG, warning against the spread of speculation and unverified claims.

“The public deserves truthful information, the Church deserves fair representation, and Pastor Adeboye deserves accurate reporting,” the statement said.

The church concluded by urging Nigerians to verify information before sharing it.

“Verify before you believe. Fact-check before you publish. Truth matters,” the statement added.
