Workers at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) returned to duty on Tuesday after suspending a one‑day industrial action that began on Monday, the commission said.

Head of Media and Corporate Communications at NUPRC, Eniola Akinkuotu, who made this known, in a statement, said that negotiations between top management and the commission’s two in‑house unions — the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) — led to the suspension of the 12‑hour stoppage late on Monday.

The commission said the action affected only administrative functions and did not interrupt its regulatory operations at oil and gas facilities. NUPRC urged the public to ignore reports claiming disruptions to crude oil production and dismissed suggestions that the dispute related to foreign training.

NUPRC also said management is committed to improving the workforce’s operating environment and will prioritise staff development in line with provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act.

The commission said the action affected only administrative functions and did not interrupt its regulatory operations at exploration and production sites. NUPRC urged the public to disregard reports claiming disruptions to crude oil production and dismissed suggestions that the dispute related to foreign training.
The strike was organised by staff via PENGASSAN and NUPENG over disagreements on foreign travels and other entitlements.

NUPRC said regulatory duties at oil and gas facilities continued during the 12‑hour action, limiting any immediate operational impact.
The commission said management and unions reached an understanding during late‑night talks and promised follow‑up measures. NUPRC reiterated its commitment to improving the workforce’s operating environment and prioritising staff development in line with the PIA, and said it will work with unions to implement agreed measures.
