Real Madrid Open Talks With Arsenal Over Calafiori

Real Madrid have initiated contact with Arsenal as they push to secure the signing of Italy international Riccardo Calafiori ahead of the summer transfer window.

Spanish media recently suggested that José Mourinho personally requested the acquisition of the versatile defender as a condition of his potential return to the Santiago Bernabéu dugout.

Following Florentino Pérez’s re-election as club president, the charismatic Portuguese coach—known as The Special One—is now expected to make a sensational comeback to Madrid.

According to Sky Sport Italia (via Football Italia), the final details of Mourinho’s appointment are being wrapped up, and Madrid’s board has already begun acting on his transfer wish list.

Representatives from the Spanish capital have reached out to their counterparts at Arsenal to inquire about the availability of the 22-year-old former Roma and Basel man.

While Madrid have formally expressed their desire to bring Calafiori on board this summer, the talks are still in an early, exploratory phase. No formal offer has been tabled yet, and the dialogue remains limited to an initial phone call.

Separately, the Merengues are also moving to reinforce their right flank. Dutch wing-back Denzel Dumfries is set to leave Internazionale for Madrid in a deal worth around €20 million.

The transfer is made possible by a release clause in Dumfries’ contract, which became active earlier this month, paving the way for his departure from the Nerazzurri.
