Rep Abubakar Mourns Demise Of 22 Kano Athletes

Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, a member of the House of Representatives for Bichi Federal constituency, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the 22 Kano athletes who were involved in a tragic road accident while returning from the National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Athletes, sports officials, medical personnel, administrators, and a journalist died in the fatal crash, which occurred in Dakatsalle town in Kura Local Government Area about 50 kilometres from Kano.

In a statement on Monday, Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, described the incident as a great loss to Kano state and the sporting community in Nigeria.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the tragic death of 22 young athletes and officials from Kano State, who were involved in a road accident at Dakatsalle town, while returning from the just concluded National Sports Festival (NSF), held in Abeokuta Ogun.

“This is a great loss to not only the families of the deceased or Kano state, but to also Nigeria in general.
