Residents of NEPA community of Jos North local government area of Plateau State arrested a suspected kidnapper who had succeeded in collecting N1.5m ransom from the parents of abducted persons in Jos, the state’s capital.

Spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo who confirmed the incident to our correspondent said the suspect is currently held at the anti-kidnapping unit of the command where he is undergoing investigation.

A member of the vigilante group in the community, who does not want his name in print, told our correspondent on Thursday, that the suspect was immediately handed over to the vigilantes group in the area after he was arrested by the residents.

He added that the suspect was later taken to the Laranto Police Station in Jos North local government area.

Narrating the incident, the vigilante said, “The kidnapper had abducted two children, one four years old and the other, five years old. After receiving a ransom of N1.5 million he didn’t release them (the victims) instantly.

“The following day, when he returned to an unoccupied building where he was keeping the minors, people passing by heard the kids crying and immediately rushed towards the building.

“Upon arrival, the kidnapper, who was with the minors, jumped out of the window, but as people screamed and shouted ‘Kidnapper’, residents from the community came out in large number and caught him.”
