Retirees in Kaduna State under Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) yesterday issued a 14-day ultimatum to Governor Uba Sani to pay their entitlements.
The group who staged a peaceful protest vowed to occupy the Kaduna State Government House if their demands are not met in two weeks.
The chairman of the group, Prof. Nate Danjuma who led the peaceful protest to Sir Kashim Ibrahim House said that their members are dying of hunger.
“We are giving Governor Uba Sani two weeks to pay our entitlements or else we will occupy the Government House.
“Some of our members have developed mental problem because of lack of medical care, some have died of hunger, we keep losing our members everyday. Some of us can’t afford hospital bills. Many are homeless.
“Our members are paralyzed, our families are disintegrated, some are going blind, we are sick and we don’t have money to take care of ourselves and families,” he said.
Some of the retirees who also spoke narrated their plight, saying that they feed from hand to mouth.
The Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, CP Muhammad Rabiu, who spoke to the protesting retirees, thanked them for holding a peaceful protest.
He assured them that Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani would look into their demands.
