The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has called on the Nigeria Revenue Service (NCR) to extend the June 30, 2026 Company Income Tax filing deadline by one month and waive all penalties after the newly launched Rev360 tax portal suffered prolonged downtime.
The director-general of LCCI, Dr Chinyere Almona, stated this in a statement titled, ‘LCCI to NRS: Rev360 Failure Demands Immediate One-Month Filing Extension and Penalty Waiver’ released to the media.
According to Almona, the Chamber wishes to call on the Nigeria Revenue Service to reconsider its 30th June deadline for the filing of Company Income Tax. While the Chamber is not shielding businesses from blame for waiting until the last minute of the deadline, the hitches encountered when filing on the newly launched Rev360 portal cannot be ignored.
The NRS launched Rev360 in late April 2026 as part of a broader reform to modernise tax administration, consolidate multiple electronic services into a single platform, and improve tax compliance and data analytics. The new system replaced earlier, separate online services for VAT, PAYE, and corporate tax filings, and was positioned by the NRS as the single gateway for electronic submissions, payments, and taxpayer account management.
Since adoption, the platform has been promoted through a brief series of public communications and targeted onboarding sessions for corporate users, but industry groups and tax practitioners warned that the short interval between deployment and the mid-year filing cycle increased the risk of “teething” problems.
Several tax advisory firms and IT consultants also recommended staged rollouts and extended testing windows before key statutory deadlines.
Almona pointed out that “launched about two months ago, Rev360, NRS’s newly launched tax platform, suffered prolonged downtime on June 30, the statutory CIT filing deadline, leaving thousands of companies unable to file with hours to spare. This is a platform failure, not a taxpayer failure.
“We also understand that such a new system launched too close to a hard deadline can develop teething problems especially due to a peak-day traffic. In addition to that, a predictable last-minute volume has exposed its lack of capacity, producing login failures, validation errors, and failed submissions precisely when businesses needed reliability most.”
The LCCI urged the NRS to announce the extension and penalty waiver as soon as possible to avoid apprehension and confusion in the business community.
On June 30, the statutory deadline for filing Company Income Tax returns in Nigeria, users reported prolonged login failures, validation errors and unsuccessful submissions on Rev360.
LCCI said thousands of companies were affected with only hours remaining before the deadline. Independent reports from tax practitioners and corporate tax teams in Lagos and Abuja describe inconsistent access, queueing messages, and submission confirmations that later failed validation checks.
She added that “LCCI’s Demand to NRS Is Direct and Threefold: extend the CIT filing deadline by one month; waive all penalties for companies that attempted to file on or before June 30 but were blocked by the outage; and urgently stabilise Rev360’s capacity before the next filing deadline.”
