Rights Groups Want Disparity In Statements On Oke’s Alleged Assassination Attempt Investigated

Network of Civil Society Groups in Osun State, in Osogbo, have called on the inspector-general of police (IGP), Tunji Disu, to investigate the alleged falsification of a suspect’s statement and ensure that the full wrath of the law is brought upon whoever is found culpable.

The group, at a press conference addressed by Comrade Olowu Emmanuel Ayedun, contended that the disparity between the account of Osun police command and the viral confessional video allegedly made by one Oriyomi Olalekan over the alleged assassination attempt on the director-general of Osun APC Campaign Council, Hon. Wole Oke, calls for concern.

While commending the IGP for his recent swift intervention in the security situation in Osun that led to the arrest of many alleged political thugs, the group maintained that the recent occurrence is a pointer to the allegation of bias levelled against the state commissioner of Police, CP IbrahPolicean.

The group insisted that Osun State police, under the leadership of Gotan, have demonstrated bias and compromised their integrity if the account in the video is true, noting that the public was deliberately misled and that the machinery of law enforcement was used to promote a false narrative for political purposes.

They therefore called for the redeployment of CP Gotan because, according to them, he had lost the confidence of the people of Osun by his alleged deliberate refusal to make any effort to carry out his lawful duties of restoring peace in Osun until the IGP issued a firm directive.

The group that consists of Social Economic and Civic Rights Advocacy (SECRA), Centre for Accountability and Democracy, (CAD), Good Governance Initiative (GGI), Youths for Better Initiative (YBI) and Grassroots Watch (GW) unanimously called for a discrete investigation into allegation of falsifying a suspect’s statement and ensure that the full wrath of the law is brought upon whoever is found culpable.

“The Network of Civil Society Groups in Osun will continue to monitor developments closely and will not remain silent while the integrity of law enforcement and the democratic process is threatened”, the group maintained
