No fewer than 272 movies from 65 countries will be screened at the third edition of the 2025 Rivers International Film Festival (RIFF), scheduled to commence at the end of this month in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The Festival Director, Kate Ezeigbo who disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt yesterday, noted that films from 211 African countries and 70 others from other continents will be screened during the festival.
The festival, themed “Roots and Resilience: Exploring the Strength and Resilience of Indigenous Cultures,” is scheduled to hold from October 30 to November 2, 2025.
It will spotlight African and global creativity while promoting Rivers State as a safe, thriving destination for culture, film, and investment.
Ezeigbo said the 2025 edition aims to strengthen Nigeria’s creative economy by exploring the intersection of film, culture, tourism, and innovation.
“Through these films, we are celebrating the strength and resilience of our roots, telling authentic African stories, and positioning Rivers State as a creative and cultural powerhouse,” she said.
She added that this year’s RIFF focuses on storytelling that connects roots to resilience across Africa. “We want to use film to revive cultural institutions and show the world that Rivers State is not just peaceful but open for business and creativity.”
According to her, the objective of the third edition is to promote collaboration and innovation across film, digital media, and cultural industries; empower young filmmakers through exposure, mentorship, and practical opportunities; strengthen the creative economy in Rivers State through film tourism and investment; and celebrate diversity by bringing together talents from across Nigeria and the world.
Ezeigbo, who is the National Chairman-elect of the Nigerian Film Festival Association (NFFA), disclosed that the festival will offer free medical services including check-ups, treatments, and surgeries by licensed health professionals for interested guests and participants.
“Over the years, RIFF has empowered emerging creatives through training, exposure, and partnerships that open real opportunities in the entertainment industry.
“Our festival continues to drive innovation, inspire unique storytelling, and promote the creative economy in Rivers State and beyond,” she said.
