Brazilian football legend and World Cup winner Ronaldinho has agreed a surprise partnership with Italian Serie C club Ravenna FC, more than a decade after bringing his illustrious playing career to an end.

The 46-year-old former Barcelona and AC Milan star is set to be officially unveiled by the club at a special event in Miami next week.

Initial reports of Ronaldinho’s involvement sparked speculation that the Brazilian icon could be preparing for an unlikely return to competitive football. However, Ravenna officials have moved quickly to clarify that the former Ballon d’Or winner will not be taking to the pitch for the club during the forthcoming season.

Speaking about the new partnership, Ronaldinho expressed his excitement at becoming part of the club’s future plans.

“New colours, same smile. I can’t wait to get back to dancing on the ball and write a new story together with Ignazio and the entire Cipriani family,” he said.

“Football has always been a source of joy for me, and I want to bring that same spirit to Ravenna.”

Ravenna owner Ignazio Cipriani hailed Ronaldinho’s arrival as a landmark moment in the club’s history, revealing that the Brazilian was one of his footballing heroes while growing up.

Cipriani believes Ronaldinho’s global appeal and influence extend far beyond his achievements on the pitch and will provide a significant boost to the club’s profile and international visibility.

Despite the excitement generated among supporters, Ravenna honorary vice-president Ariedo Braida dismissed suggestions that Ronaldinho could come out of retirement and play for the club.

Braida explained that the Brazilian’s responsibilities would focus primarily on marketing, promotional activities and brand development rather than any football-related duties.

The agreement represents another high-profile venture away from the pitch for Ronaldinho, who officially retired from professional football in 2015 following a brief spell with Brazilian side Fluminense.
