The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reversed and shattered all the gains made in the country within the 16 years of PDP’s national leadership of the country.
The national chairman of PDP, Tanimu Turaki, who said this at a meeting with the PDP state chairmen in Abuja, added that Nigerians are now begging the ruling party to take them back to where things were before they took over power in 2015.
Stressing that PDP is on a mission to reclaim Nigeria from the ruling party, Turaki said the APC, has taken Nigeria retrogressively backward, instead of taking her progressively forward.
He said, “Today, Nigerians are living witnesses that the achievements, the progress that had been made in the 16 PDP glorious years have either been destroyed, or shattered, or reversed.
“And that is why today, whenever Nigerians speak, they beg, they plead. If you can take us anywhere further, please take us back to where we were in 2015.
“I say to Nigerians out there that have listened to you. We are not taking you back to 2015 when we left. We will take over power by the special grace of God in 2027.
“And thereafter, we will begin the journey to taking Nigeria and Nigerians to the promised land. It’s possible, it’s doable, we’ve done it before, and we’re going to do it again,” he said.
Attempts to get the APC’s reaction to the PDP claims were abortive as a message sent to the party’s national spokesman, Felix Morka, was not replied as of press time.
Turaki, who also spoke about the state of the PDP, taunted the group led by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Nyesom Wike, over its claim to ownership of the party, declaring that the party’s chairmen in the states have rejected them.
He added that the side where PDP chairmen are with is where the leadership of the party is.
He said “For me, today is a day of fulfillment. Outside there, some people who claim to be members of our party, but who indeed the whole world knows are not members of our party, they claim that they have what they call a faction.
“So when you look at 29 state chairmen sitting with us, with apologies coming from two, then when you also take into account the fact that there were some certain chapters that were dissolved, and so do not have leadership constituted presently, which we are planning to do in due course, then tell me, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, who is not here.
“If all the state chairmen are here with us, then who is it that is not with us? If all the state chairmen are supporting us, then who, sincerely speaking, can be fighting us? So this is something for the whole world to see.”
In a related development, Turaki declared that PDP is ready to win the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.
He stated this during the presentation of the Certificate of Return to the party’s governorship flag-bearer, Dr Oluwole Oluyede, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.
Turaki stated, “Let me assure the great people of Ekiti: We will win the Ekiti Guber Election in 2026! Our candidate, Dr Oluwole Oluyede, is a man of the people, and the PDP is the only party with a genuine blueprint for shared prosperity and sustainable development in Nigeria.”
He noted that the unity demonstrated during the primary election process under former Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State, signaled the party’s preparedness to present a formidable and unshakeable front against the incumbent APC.
In his acceptance speech, the governorship candidate thanked the NWC and all party members for their faith in him and promised to run an issue-based campaign focused on addressing the economic hardships faced by the citizens of Ekiti State.
Also speaking at the event, the Senate minority leader, Senator Abba Moro, who led the other PDP National Assembly members, raised concerns about the management of Nigeria’s finances under the current APC government.
According to him, the current administration is yet to implement the entire 2025 Budget, a practice he described as “fiscally irresponsible and opaque.”
“This action of non-implementation of the 2025 budget even at the last month of the year is a grave indicator of the APC’s mismanagement and lack of accountability,” the minority leader stated. “The people must ask: What are they trying to cover up? The PDP will use its legislative oversight to expose all financial recklessness in Nigeria.” He said.
Presenting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s form to the candidate, the party called on the INEC to ensure a level playing field and credible election process in 2026, assuring the people of Ekiti State that the PDP remains their best option for meaningful change.
