Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025–26 season, drawing the curtain on a glittering nine-year spell at Anfield.

The 33-year-old made the announcement on Tuesday in an emotional video message shared on X, ending months of speculation about his future.

“Hello everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come,” Salah said in the video, adding that “This is the first part of my farewell: I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.”

Salah, who joined the club from AS Roma in 2017, has since grown into one of the Premier League’s most iconic players. His tally of 255 goals in 435 appearances places him third on Liverpool’s all-time scorers list, behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.

The club also confirmed his impending departure in an official statement, noting that both parties had reached an agreement for him to leave upon the expiration of his contract.

Reflecting on his time at the club, Salah spoke emotionally about his connection to Liverpool and its supporters.

“I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life,” he said.

“Liverpool, it’s not just a football club. It’s a passion. It’s a history. It’s a spirit. I can’t explain in words to anyone not part of this club.”

Arriving in England after a challenging stint at Chelsea, Salah rebuilt his career in remarkable fashion, playing a central role in one of Liverpool’s most successful eras. During his time at the club, he won two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the FA Cup, and two League Cups, alongside multiple individual honours, including four Premier League Golden Boots.

He also paid tribute to teammates and fans who supported him throughout his journey.

“I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates, past and present,” he said.

“And to the fans: I don’t have enough words. The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times. It’s something I will never forget, and something I will take with me always,” he added.

“Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I always be one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family.” He stated.

Liverpool said Salah chose to announce his decision early out of “respect and gratitude” to supporters, allowing clarity over his future while the season is still ongoing.

Despite the announcement, the club emphasised that there is still much to play for this season, with Salah focused on helping the team finish strongly before a formal farewell later in the year.

Salah concluded his message with a heartfelt note, “Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
