The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Professor Sodiq Abubakar Gombe, said he presented sufficient evidence before a Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, in the misappropriation and corruption case against Shehu Gabam, who still appears on the portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s national chairman.

Gabam was arraigned on May 12 before the FCT Magistrate Court over allegations of misappropriating party funds during his tenure as SDP chairman between 2022 and 2023.

The case, filed as suit No. DCC/10/2026, was, however, adjourned to June 17, 2026, after Monday’s hearing.

The proceedings come amid an ongoing leadership tussle between Gombe and Gabam.

At the party’s convention in Bauchi on May 9, 2026, delegates ratified Gombe as national chairman.

Speaking to journalists after the hearing, Gombe said he testified as a witness and expressed confidence that Chief Magistrate Amauche Onyedium would deliver justice. He insisted that Gabam’s expulsion from the party should stand.

Gombe added that the magistrate advised both parties to consider an out-of-court settlement.

“I appeared as a witness. We tendered relevant documents, including the report of the disciplinary committee that tried the accused.

“The documents include the letter of invitation sent to Gabam, the findings of the investigation he allegedly refused to honour, and records of companies allegedly used to siphon and launder party funds. The case has been adjourned to June 17, 2026,” he said.
