The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has inaugurated a disciplinary committee to investigate financial misappropriation and malfeasance within the party.
The acting national chairman of the party, Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe, who announced this in Abuja yesterday, emphasised the importance of the committee’s role in purifying and repositioning the party for the upcoming elections and beyond.
“The committee, composed of distinguished party members known for integrity and expertise, is charged with the task of ensuring transparency, fairness and impartiality.
“I urge the committee members to uphold the principles of natural justice and the rule of law in carrying out the deliberations,” he said.
He added that the committee’s actions should be guided by truth, accountability and the ultimate judgment of a higher power, reminding members that their duty was not to witch-hunt but to cleanse and strengthen the party for the benefit of all Nigerians, especially the youth who have expressed desire for a credible and principled political party.
He also expressed his confidence in the committee members’ ability to carry out their duties effectively and urged them to remain steadfast in their commitment to upholding the values and integrity of the party.
The national secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye, said the party had taken a bold step towards ensuring transparency and accountability within its ranks by inaugurating the committee.
He said, “The surprising discovery of fraudulent audited financial reports submitted to the chairman of INEC by Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam raised serious concerns within the party.”
