An aviation security practitioner, Capt. John Ojikutu (rtd), has described the action of Fuji Musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as K1, against Valuejet Airlines as an untoward act that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) needed to investigate.
Speaking exclusively to LEADERSHIP on Monday, Capt. Ojikutu urged the NCAA to probe how the Fuji musician escaped the Airport Security layers of defence to the Aprons with a flask of liquid.
Ojikutu, a former general secretary of the Aviation Round Table Initiative (ARTI), expressed worry about how K1 was not restrained from stopping a taxiing aircraft carrying over 100 passengers.
“We have said a lot about Ms Comfort Emmanson, the unruly passenger on Ibom Air, but what about the act of K1 on Valuejet? This is a more serious act that calls for the attention of the Aviation Security Regulatory Authority than the attention that I have seen given to the unruly behaviour of Comfort.
“While the NCAA is directing the Airlines to raise the level of their Security Programme on board, what directive has been given to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on the Airport Security Defence Layers up to the Aircraft parking areas, Aprons, where K1 displayed his power over everyone, including the pilot?”
“This brings to fore the authority of the NCAA over the Authority of FAAN. I repeat myself: let the political office holders not override the National Security authority.”
Capt. Ojikutu said the NCAA must be prepared to answer questions about this Security/Safety Services Operator’s negligence to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) during the coming Audits.
“The NCAA must investigate how K1 escaped the Airport Security Layers of defence to the Aprons with a flask of whatever liquid and was not restrained from stopping a taxiing Aircraft carrying over 100 passengers. NCAA must be prepared to give answers to ICAO about this security/safety services operator’s negligence during the coming audits,” he stated.
