Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, has resolved the lingering political dispute within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano North Senatorial District, leading to the withdrawal of Hon. Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo (ATM) from the 2027 senatorial contest in support of the deputy Senate president, Barau I. Jibrin.

The development was disclosed yesterday in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature.

According to him, the reconciliation followed a series of meetings involving APC stakeholders in Kano North, with the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The meetings culminated in a consensus arrangement between Gwarzo and Senator Barau Jibrin ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As part of the agreement, Gwarzo formally withdrew from the race and pledged support for the deputy Senate president.

In a withdrawal letter submitted to the party leadership, Gwarzo reaffirmed his loyalty and commitment to the APC.

After the meeting, he described himself as a loyal party member who could not reject the appeals and interventions of President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima and Governor Yusuf.

He commended the trio for their efforts in ensuring peace and unity within the APC in Kano State.

Responding, Senator Barau Jibrin said Gwarzo had demonstrated maturity, respect and a strong sense of understanding by accepting the consensus arrangement.

He noted that they had remained political associates and friends over the years, assuring that they would continue to work together for the unity and progress of the party.

Governor Yusuf commended the two leaders for embracing reconciliation and making sacrifices in the interest of party unity.

He expressed confidence that the resolution would further strengthen the APC in Kano State and across the country.

The development came after Governor Yusuf resolved the APC Kano Central senatorial tussle, which produced former Kano State governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, as the party’s consensus candidate for the zone.
