The Director General and CEO of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the extensive renovation and redevelopment of key national sports infrastructure across Nigeria.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Ben Ogbemudia, Shaibu described the decision as a visionary move that will enhance athlete development, improve sports administration, and boost Nigeria’s global competitiveness.

He particularly welcomed the renovation of the NIS 200-bed athletes’ and coaches’ hostel at Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, noting that the facility will greatly support the institute’s training programmes for athletes, coaches, administrators, and technical staff.

“This approval is timely and commendable. It will improve our capacity to organise training and create a conducive environment for high-performance sports education,” Shaibu said.

He also thanked the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, for his dedication to realising these projects, adding that such collaboration is vital for progress.

Shaibu reiterated the need to fully constitute the NSC Board in line with its enabling law to strengthen policy coordination and institutional synergy.

Expressing optimism about the ongoing reforms, Shaibu noted that Alhaji Shehu Dikko remains NSC Chairman and Hon. Bukola Olopade serves as DG and Secretary of the Board, but stressed that full board composition is essential for a better sports ecosystem in Nigeria.
