The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has commended security agencies for their efforts in combating the incursion of bandits into Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State from neighbouring states.
Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation MESA, in Shanono LGA, led by the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, successfully repelled bandit incursions and protected the affected communities.
On 1st November, following a tip-off regarding the movement of bandits, troops of the 3 Brigade—supported by other security agencies—engaged the criminals, resulting in the neutralisation of 19 bandits.
In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau commended the troops for their gallantry and effective engagement with the criminal elements.
He mourned the deaths of two soldiers and a vigilante operative who paid the ultimate price while securing the area.
The Deputy Senate President urged residents to remain vigilant, calm, and to promptly report any suspicious movements to security personnel for swift action.
He reiterated his commitment to continue supporting security agencies in Shanono, the Kano North Senatorial District, and the state at large.
“Shanono and other local government areas in Kano North Senatorial District—and indeed the entire Kano State—are peaceful. We will not allow these marauding criminals, who are on the run from neighbouring states following military operations, to destabilise our communities,” he said.
