Nigerian Afrobeats star Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has called on musicians to embrace their influence as cultural ambassadors, urging artists to promote peace, unity and social awareness through their music. He made the remarks after receiving the Artist of the Year honour at the 18th Leadership Conference and Awards.

According to the singer, entertainment remains one of the fastest ways to reach people globally, stressing that artists must understand that every move they make shapes public perception. He noted that musicians should use their platforms to educate audiences and address societal issues, much as earlier generations of conscious performers did.

Reflecting on his career journey, Skales attributed his longevity in the industry to resilience, teamwork and ambition, describing himself as “a kid from Kaduna with a dream” who continues to evolve despite challenges. He added that consistency and purpose-driven work are key to leaving a meaningful legacy for younger creatives.

The award-winning performer also highlighted his recent international collaborations, including projects with global brands and football giants such as FC Barcelona, saying such milestones show that Nigerian artists can compete on the world stage.

Looking ahead, Skales announced plans for a 2026 global tour while continuing to promote his latest album, Martina’s Son, a project he described as a personal tribute to his late mother and a reflection of his evolving artistic journey.
