One-time Super Eagles invitee, Viv Solomon-Otabor netted the decisive goal in the dying moments, leading Al Orooba to a nervy 3-2 away victory over Ajman in the UAE Pro League on Monday night.
The match, held at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Stadium, was a crucial encounter for both teams, with Al Orooba coming back twice to claim the victory.
The game was a tense affair, with both sides struggling to break down each other’s defences. Al Orooba’s goalkeeper made a series of crucial saves to keep the score level, before broke the deadlock before halftime and also took the lead again after the restart.
With the scoreline at 2-1 in favour of the hosts in the 85th minute, Solomon-Otabor’s teammate, Heber leveled matters at 2-2 before the attacker of Nigerian descent scored a late penalty to make it 3-2.
The goal marked his third of the season since joining Al Orooba in February, highlighting his growing influence in the team’s attacking play.
Reflecting on his contribution, Otabor-Solomon said, “It’s great to be on the score sheet again and make the fans feel relaxed about the team. More importantly it’s an away game so it boosts our confidence going into the next game.
“I hope to continue making such impacts, that’s why I am here.”
The victory was a significant one for Al Orooba, who had been languishing at the bottom of the league table. With this win, they are now within striking distance of safety.
Looking ahead, Al Orooba will aim to build on this momentum in their upcoming fixture against Al Wasl at home next Tuesday.
