In light of FIFA deducting three points and three goals from Bafana Bafana of South Africa, coach Hugo Broos has asserted that his team has demonstrated on the pitch that it deserves to compete in next year’s World Cup.
South Africa, which have accumulated 14 points from eight matches, have now dropped to second in Group C of the qualifying series, with Benin rising to the top based on superior goal difference.
“Based on our performances over the last two years, there’s only one team that deserves to be at the World Cup,” Hugo Broos stated ahead of their Friday clash against Zimbabwe in Durban as part of the World Cup qualifying tournament.
“We did what we needed to do.”
The Belgian coach acknowledged that the FIFA decision may have “altered the situation slightly,” but it has not impacted their determination to win their final two matches against Zimbabwe and Rwanda.
South Africa last competed in the World Cup 24 years ago.
