The South West zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected new members of its Zonal Working Committee, signaling renewed momentum ahead of the party’s national convention and the 2027 general elections.
The elections took place at Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, during a well-attended Zonal Congress described by stakeholders as peaceful and unified.
In a statement issued by the zonal publicity secretary, Akinloye Oyeniyi, the newly- elected executives include Deji Doherty as Chairman and Oluwole Omotaje as Secretary. Others are Obe Gbolaro (Treasurer), David Adedamola (Legal Adviser), Gbadamosi Babatunde (Financial Secretary), and Oyeniyi, who retains his position as Zonal Publicity Secretary.
Additional officers elected at the congress include Wale Ogunmodede, Adefemi Clement, Folake Marcus Oluwakayode, and Tolulope Awoniyi, who emerged as Zonal Youth Leader.
Oyeniyi described the congress as a “significant milestone” in the party’s preparations for 2027, noting that the new leadership would play a central role in mobilising grassroots support across the South West.
“The congress was held in a cordial atmosphere and reflects the unity and democratic ethos of our party,” he said.
The zone also used the occasion to unanimously endorse the PDP’s forthcoming national convention scheduled for March 29 to 30 in Abuja. Oyeniyi said stakeholders commended the party’s leadership, including Nyesom Wike, for sustaining the party and steering it towards the convention.
“The congress commended the national leadership and South West stakeholders for holding forth this far and unanimously endorsed the forthcoming national convention in Abuja to showcase the PDP’s unity and strength as the largest opposition party,” he stated.
The national convention is expected to produce new national officers and outline strategies for the 2027 elections.
Expressing optimism, Oyeniyi said the party remains focused on reclaiming political power. “We are united and determined to reclaim power across boards in 2027,” he added.
