In response to the Southern Africa drought crisis, the President General of the United Nations Association of Africa (UNAA), Amb. Sylvester Okafor, has called for solidarity and urgent action from African leaders.

Amb. Okafor also extended his heartfelt solidarity to the people of Southern Africa who are currently facing a severe drought crisis, impacting their livelihoods, food security, and overall well-being.

“This crisis is a stark reminder of the urgent challenges we face in our fight against climate change and its devastating effects on vulnerable communities,” he said.

Amb. Sylvester Okafor also stressed that in this critical period of the history of the people, he urged governments, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and individuals to join hands in support of the affected populations. “It is imperative that we mobilise resources, share expertise, and implement sustainable solutions to alleviate the suffering caused by this natural disaster.”

He said governments must prioritise the delivery of humanitarian aid, access to clean water, food security initiatives, and long-term strategies to enhance resilience against future climate-related adversities, stressing that it is our collective responsibility to ensure that no one is left behind in this moment of need.

Amb. Okafor stated that Africans must stand united in commitment to supporting fellow Africans, which can foster hope and demonstrate that through solidarity and concerted efforts, Africans can overcome even the most challenging circumstances.

He said as the President General of the United Nations Association of Africa, he will not relent to reach out to members all over Africa to ensure that they rally support for the people at this very critical period of their history. “This is what we stand for and we will not relent at this trying time,” he said.

He, therefore, urged all stakeholders to heed the call for action and contribute to a brighter and more resilient future for the people of Southern Africa.
