President Bola Tinubu has constituted the reconciliation committee for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State and appointed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, as its chairman.
In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, Musa Krishi, this is the second time the President has saddled Abbas with such a responsibility, having chaired the APC reconciliation committee for Bauchi State about four months ago.
The Benue APC reconciliation committee is to address and resolve the internal crisis within the party in the State.
The specific mandates of the committee include: investigate the root causes of factionalism and disunity in the Benue APC; engage key stakeholders and party organs to achieve reconciliation; propose structural, procedural, and strategic reforms for sustainable peace and political cohesion; and submit a comprehensive report with recommendations for presidential consideration.
Members of the committee include Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State; Senator Abdulaziz Yari; former House of Reps Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari.
The Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Prof. Jake Dan-Azumi, is the secretary to the committee, while the Chief of Staff to the governor of Yobe State, Abdullahi Gashua, will be a member of the secretariat.
The committee is set to commence its assignment in earnest by engaging with all the relevant stakeholders.
In August this year, President Tinubu appointed Speaker Abbas to chair the APC reconciliation committee for Bauchi State, which has concluded its assignment.
