The organisers of the popular Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament have officially launched a series of activities leading up to the highly anticipated third season of the annual event. This year’s competition promises significant changes aimed at elevating the standard of play and overall structure.

The season officially commences with a media briefing scheduled for Tuesday, 17th February, at the Spires Media headquarters in Victoria Island. This event will serve to unveil the comprehensive roadmap for the 2026 tournament.

Prior to the qualifying rounds, which are set to begin in the second quarter of the year across the five divisions of Lagos, a crucial stakeholders’ conference and workshop will be held.

Dr. Bankole Allibay, the visionary behind the widely followed football championship, stated that this year’s tournament will incorporate substantial improvements. He remarked:

“We are not only building on the successes of the last edition but raising the standards in certain areas to improve the whole structure.”

Dr. Allibay further explained that the initial media briefing aims to inform the public of these “changes and adjustments before the teams’ registration gets on the way in March.”

The reigning champions, Lagos Island-based club White Tigers, will be looking to defend their title. Coached by Emmanuel Olom, White Tigers secured their second consecutive victory in the 2025 edition, triumphing over Papa SA football club with a dominant 4-0 win in the final held at the Stables Sports Centre in Surulere. The victory saw White Tigers pocket a prize money of N5 million, while Papa SA received N3 million as runners-up.
