The stakeholders made the recommendation in the just-concluded International Conference on Biotechnology held in Lagos.

The director-general of National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency, Dr Abdulahi Mustapha, in his keynote address charged the researchers against holding the outcome of their researched works.

“Gone are those days when we kept our research on the shelves. We are now out to the people with our researches and discoveries, Biotechnology is meant to enhance the lives of people.

“Biotechnology is to produce multiple technological advances. If we do not embark on inward scientific research and discoveries, we may be forced to depend on other countries,” he said.

“We want everyone, especially our government, to know that with Biotechnology, we can tackle climate change, global warming so that we can enjoy the benefits and also make our future generation stay healthy.

“Biotechnology is life enhancing technology. This is why we are going to speak on the theme, Biotechnology as a catalyst for sustainable economic development: achieving Sustainable Development Goals through innovation and collaboration.”

Earlier in his welcome address, Kolawole explained that the unveiling of the fourth annual international conference and workshop was meant to showcase the advances in Biotechnology because the school has been able to bridge the gap between academia and society.

On his part, the convener of the event, which was hosted by the Faculty of Basic Medical and Applied Science Department, Professor Charles Adetunji stated that with Biotechnology, they have been able to bring solutions to man’s daily needs.
