The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has called on its members and supporters to refrain from any act that may lead to a breach of peace following the Supreme Court hearing over the last governorship election in the state slated for January 16.

This follows a peace deal signed by the leadership of both political parties in the presence of security agencies in the state on Monday in Lafia.

A statement by the APC’s spokesperson in the state, Mr. Otaru Douglas, made available to journalists Monday evening, urged members and supporters to employ civility in their conduct, maintain decorum, mutual respect, and avoid making utterances capable of inflaming passion.

The Apex Court had fixed Tuesday, January 16, to hear the Appeal filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. David Ombugadu, against the Court of Appeal ruling, which upheld the election of Abdullahi A. Sule during the last poll in the state.

“On no account should any party member or supporter authorise or publish unauthorised statements from any quarters, be it on social or mainstream media platforms. Any statement on matters arising from the proceedings of the court to be issued by any individual or appointee of the Government must be verified and edited by the media centre of the party and that of the government house before its publication.

“To this end, we enjoin our teeming supporters to remain calm and refrain from any act capable of undermining the peace and stability of the state either before, during, and after the Supreme Court judgement.

“While we urge our party supporters to adhere and comply strictly with the terms and instructions by security agencies in the maintenance of law and order, we wish to also admonish the opposition PDP and its supporters to honour the peace treaty, observe all civilities and decorum in the interest of peace. Let it be known to us all that there must be a peaceful Nasarawa State for all before either APC or PDP can govern her,” the statement said.
