Team Nigeria captain, Anuoluwapo Opeyori, suffered a 2-0 defeat in his first group game at the Paris Olympic Men’s badminton singles to Tobias Kuenzi of Switzerland on Tuesday night.

The two-time African champion, who is Nigeria’s sole representative in badminton at the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympic Games, showed excellent technique as he nearly won the first set, leading by three set points. However, he fell in a tie-break with a final score of 22-20.

Opeyori managed to mount a comeback in the second set, tying the scores at 6-6, but Kuenzi refused to give up and eventually won the set 21-14, completing the 2-0 victory.

Despite this setback, Opeyori is set to return to the court on Thursday to compete against Li Shifeng of China.
