TECH FEATURE: AI That Doesn’t Just Talk — It Gets the Job Done

agentic AI

If you thought artificial intelligence was mainly about asking ChatGPT questions, things are moving quickly.

One of 2026’s biggest technology shifts is agentic AI—AI systems designed not simply to answer you, but to plan and carry out tasks.

Imagine telling an AI assistant: find suitable flights, compare the prices and prepare the best options for me. Or asking it to research potential customers, organise information and prepare personalised sales material. Instead of requiring a new prompt at every stage, an AI agent can work through several steps towards the goal.

Google Cloud describes the shift as moving from individual AI tasks towards “digital assembly lines” capable of running entire workflows. AI agents are already being explored for customer service, software development and cybersecurity.

For Nigerians, particularly entrepreneurs and small businesses, the possibilities are significant. Routine administration, research, customer support and other repetitive digital work could increasingly be handed to AI.

But there’s a catch: giving AI permission to act also creates privacy and security risks.

The chatbot era isn’t over. It is simply learning how to do.
