‎Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has announced that her latest film, The Return of Arinzo, has emerged as the highest-grossing movie of the Easter weekend at the Nigerian box office.
‎
‎Ojo disclosed this in a post on X on Monday, revealing that the film grossed N104.8m in its opening weekend, breaking multiple records.
‎
‎“Thank you, everyone, for the love you showed us. TROA opens with N104.8m, breaking multiple records in just one weekend.
‎
‎” Highest grossing Easter weekend performance, biggest opening for a Nollywood sequel. This was only possible because of you,” she wrote.
‎
‎The film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, also confirmed the milestone in a post on Instagram, describing the movie’s debut as a strong statement at the box office.
‎
‎“₦104.8M in its opening weekend, biggest Easter opening, and the highest-grossing film of the weekend,” the distributor said
‎
‎FilmOne added that the film’s performance reflects strong audience connection and support across West Africa.
‎
‎“But beyond the numbers, this is what it looks like when a story connects… when people see themselves on screen and show up for it. West Africa, you didn’t just watch, you showed up… you filled the cinemas,” it stated.
‎
‎Return of Arinzo is a sequel to the 2013 Yoruba blockbuster Arinzo, which explored themes of crime and personal transformation.
‎
‎The original film was directed by Abiodun Olanrewaju and Muhydeen S. Ayinde, and featured a mix of Nollywood and Ghallywood actors.
‎
‎The new release has also generated buzz beyond its box-office success, following a viral moment at its Lagos premiere involving Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.
‎
‎In a circulating video, Abraham was seen attempting to greet Akindele, who appeared not to respond, sparking reactions on social media.
