Preside Bola Tinubu has approved the commencement of commercial oil drilling at Eba, and has also granted approval for the immediate take-off of the long-awaited Olokola Deep Seaport prokect, both in Ogun Waterside local government area of Ogun State.

These were disclosed by Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, via his verified Facebook page late Thursday night, saying developments have placed the State firmly on the path to becoming an oil-producing state as the deep seaport approval also marked a major milestone for Ogun coastal communities and opens new opportunities for inclusion, economic empowerment, and development.

He particularly said the seaport, to be known as the Blue Marine Economic Zone, will significantly decongest the Lagos ports, unlock vast commercial potential, and fully leverage Ogun strategic coastal advantage, especially with the coastal road now providing an alternative logistics corridor.

Governor Abiodun spoke earlier on Thursday when playing host to a delegation of the Nigerian Navy (NN) in his office in Abeokuta, the State capital, where he commended the Nigerian Navy for establishing and upgrading its presence at Tongeji Island to a Forward Operations Base (FOB), which he said will strengthen border security and protect emerging economic activities.

He wrote: “We are pleased to inform the people of Ogun State that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the commencement of commercial oil drilling at Eba, Ogun Waterside, placing our state firmly on the path to becoming an oil-producing state. This approval marks a major milestone for our coastal communities and opens new opportunities for inclusion, economic empowerment, and development.

“We also announce that Mr President has granted approval for the immediate take-off of the long-awaited Olokola Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area. The seaport, to be known as the Blue Marine Economic Zone, will significantly decongest the Lagos ports, unlock vast commercial potential, and fully leverage our strategic coastal advantage, especially with the coastal road now providing an alternative logistics corridor.

As a government, we remain committed to providing basic amenities for our coastal communities and deepening collaboration with security agencies to sustain the peace and stability Ogun State continues to enjoy.”
