President Bola Tinubu has requested Senate confirmation for the appointment of Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and read during plenary on Wednesday, the President formally presented the nomination.

Recall that President Tinubu had, on Tuesday, sacked Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, alongside Ahmed Muda Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

In the letter, Tinubu stated: “In compliance with the provisions of Section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to forward to the Senate for confirmation the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He urged the Senate to give the request expeditious consideration.

Following the reading of the letter, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative action.

In a separate communication, President Tinubu also sought Senate confirmation for the appointment of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In the letter, the President said the nomination was made in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.

He wrote: “I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.”
