Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma (JTF NW OPFY), have neutralised two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered arms and ammunition during an offensive operation in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.

The operation, conducted on June 27, formed part of ongoing military efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and improve security across the North West.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force (North West) Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.

According to the statement, the operation was launched after troops received credible intelligence that suspected Lakurawa terrorists were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.

Acting on the intelligence, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 deployed to the area and laid a tactical ambush along the route the terrorists were believed to be using.

The statement said the troops engaged the suspects as they approached the ambush position, leading to a fierce gun battle.

“The superior combat effectiveness of the troops forced the terrorists into disarray, with two of the terrorists neutralised, while the remaining members of the group fled into the surrounding forest,” the statement said.

It added that troops subsequently exploited the area and recovered a cache of weapons and operational equipment.

Items recovered included AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and one motorcycle.

The military said the operation underscores the commitment of Operation Fansan Yamma to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and other criminal elements operating across the North West.

It urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism operations and enhance the safety of communities.
