Truck Driver Kills 1, Injures 5 Other In Anambra

One person has died while five others sustained various degrees of injuries in an auto-crash in Anambra State.

The accident which occurred at 6pm on Wednesday around the defunct Nitel office in Onitsha on  the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway involved three vehicles which included a Howo truck with registration No. AWK 899 ZQ; Diahatsu shuttle bus, registration No. AKL 978 and a Mitsubishi L300 bus with registration No. SKA 439 XA.

The public relations officer of the Anambra State police command,  Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the incident, said that a team of operatives from the Central Police Station,  Onitsha  rushed to the scene of the accident, took the victims to a hospital, but, that the medical doctor on duty, confirmed one dead while five others were admitted in the hospital.

He said the police team made funds available to the hospital management to ensure proper treatment of the five survivors.

Meanwhile, the police spokesman said that the commissioner of police in the state, CP Echeng Echeng has ordered that the driver of the Howo truck who is on the run following the auto-crash should be arrested immediately.

He stated that preliminary information from eyewitnesses revealed it was the recklessness of the driver of the Howo truck driver that caused the accident.
