Nigeria’s Under-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, are set to depart for Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Wednesday ahead of the first leg of their 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying tie against Guinea.
The team is currently in a robust preparation phase, with 36 players actively training in camp. However, the squad will be trimmed down before departure, as only a selected group will make the trip to Abidjan for the crucial away fixture.
The Flamingos arrived in Ikenne last Sunday to begin the final phase of their preparations. The camp has been intensive, featuring tactical drills and friendly matches to fine-tune the squad.
In their first tune-up game last Thursday, Akeem Busari’s side delivered a commanding performance, thrashing Lakeside Queens FA 5-0.
Guinea, who are unable to host the match on home soil due to the lack of an approved venue, will play the first leg of the second qualifying round at their makeshift home ground in Abidjan. That encounter is scheduled for Saturday.
The reverse fixture is set to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Saturday, 30 May.
The aggregate winner over both legs will advance to the next round of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
